Administration

  • Type: Adrenergic agonist, decongestant, vasoconstrictor; imidazoline derivative[1][2]

Adult Dosing

  • Nasal congestion
    • 2-4 drops or 3-4 sprays 0.1% solution into each nostril every 3-4 hours as needed
  • Ocular decongestant
    • 1-2 drops in affected eye up to 4 times a daily

Pediatric Dosing

  • Nasal congestion:
    • Children 2-6 years: 2-3 drops 0.05% solution into each nostril every 406 hours as needed
    • Children >6 years: adult dosing
  • Ocular decongestant:
    • Children >6 years: adult dosing

  • Coma, bradycardia, respiratory depression, sedation in children with even small (1-1ml) ingestions

  • Sneezing, stinging sensation in nose
  • Hypertension, palpitations, tachycardia
